Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic stated on Tuesday, May 9, that the economic activities in the country had reached the point where an increase in earnings of the poorest citizens, above all pensioners and lowest-paid workers, could be considered.

As reported by the official website of the Government of Serbia, Vucic said in his interview for TV Prva that, to that end, there would be efforts to reduce income taxes and contributions and noted that one of the goals was for the unemployment rate to drop below 10%, which would exceed the European average, but also for the average salary in the country to be EUR 500 by the end of 2018.

Talking about the business climate in Serbia, the prime minister reminded that a large number of companies had been opened in the previous years, employing several thousand people.

– We're talking about Johnson Electric, which will soon have 3,000 employees, and Aster Textile, with 1,500 employees, and the plan is for another 500 new workers to be employed – he specified and announced that Leoni would start operating with 2,200 employees in three months.

Vucic added that an agreement had been reached with the Filipino company Mini on Niska Banja and noted that Nis and Novi Sad were fighting for the arrival of a new investor, which will employ 1,600 workers.

He also emphasized that the government had provided EUR 10.1 million for the local self-government in Sabac in order for 1,700 people to be employed at Yazaki and added that the company had 300 workers in the training program and that it would officially start operating in September.
