The Auto Museum, which was forcibly moved out of the Modern Garage in Majke Jevrosime Street around two months ago, after years of being located there, will be definitely moved to the space beneath Branko’s Bridge after all, which was also mentioned several years ago as the future location for this cultural institution. The Ministry of Culture is designated as the user of the special parts of the immovable property publicly owned by the Republic of Serbia for the needs of the Auto Museum – the collection of Bratislav Petkovic, and this is precisely the space of the former garage of the federal organs beneath Branko’s Bridge, where this valuable collection will be located. The members of the government adopted the decision about this at their latest session.

– This space fully meets the conditions for the permanent location and activities of the Auto Museum, and the location itself is on the Usce race track, where the European Cup was held in the 1960s and 1970s. The track no longer meets the standards for the tournament, but can be used for non-competition races. The museum’s collection features old and rare cars which are a historic legacy with a special significance in learning about the application of the scientific achievements, development and technical progress of the automotive sector. The collection contains close to a hundred vehicles, the oldest of which is a Marot-Gardon from 1897 – says the announcement of the government, which reminds that the protection also pertains to the items, devices, scientific and expert literature, driver’s licenses, the first traffic regulations and laws, license plates, tools, films and photographs, artworks and applied artworks, which contribute to studying the history of cars.

The decision to move the museum to this address is nevertheless surprising considering that, in early February, the Secretariat for Culture of the City of Belgrade announced that the city, with all its services, was actively engaged in finding an adequate and long-term solution for the keeping and exhibiting of the representative collection of the Auto Museum, because the tests had shown that the space beneath Branko’s Bridge, mentioned in the previous years as the new permanent address of the Auto Museum, could not be reconstructed.
