Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic today visited the works on the construction of the high-speed route between Iverak and Lajkovac, which will connect Valjevo with the Milos Veliki highway.

The main contractor is China Shandong, whose representatives confirmed today that the 18.3-km route would be completed by the end of 2022.

Vucic reminded that, under the contract, the traffic route was projected to be completed by December 2023, so the works are to be done a year before the deadline.

– This area will be revived thanks to the construction of the road infrastructure and people from Valjevo will no longer have to move to Belgrade – Vucic said.

The works, which started in June 2020, will cost EUR 158 million.

A total of 25 facilities will be located along the route, as well as one interchange and 19 bridges, and the fast route will have two lanes in both directions and is designed for a speed of up to 100 km/h.

Big investments and German investor

The Serbian president also pointed out that, in terms of strategic infrastructure, everything would be done within the next three years, making up for decades of neglect, according to him.

– From connecting the central gas pipeline from Orlovaca to Valjevo, worth around EUR 29 million, through the supply of Valjevo settlements with gas, worth EUR 14.3 million, to the gasification of the industrial zone, it amounts to a total of EUR 45 million – he said and reminded that three waste water treatment facilities would be built as well.

According to him, the completion of the project of reconstruction of the Valjevo General Hospital, worth EUR 12 million, was expected as well.

In around 20 days, Vucic expects the signing of the first agreement on the construction of a factory in Valjevo, by “an important German company”, where, according to him, an average salary will be around EUR 1,000, and he also added that he hoped for another company to build a factory, without disclosing the details.

He added that it remained to be seen whether it was possible to quickly invest EUR 8 million in the construction of the Lajkovac bypass route.

Vucic announced that the construction of a highway between Belgrade and Zrenjanin would start the next year and invited Chinese companies to prepare for the project.

He added that the project for the highway to Zrenjanin would be prepared very fast.

– That highway would connect the entire Backa and Banat – Vucic said and added that the state would be ready for negotiations with the Chinese contractor by the end of the year and that the works might start in 2022.

He reminded of the plan to build the highway from Belgrade to Zrenjanin, the Fruska Gora Corridor from Ruma to Novi Sad, as well as a section from Novi Sad to Zrenjanin.

Ambassador of China to Serbia Chen Bo said that the infrastructure was the most important field of cooperation between China and Serbia.

– Chinese companies can share their experience and technology with Serbian partners and contribute to the economic development of Serbia – she said.

The visit also included Serbian Construction Minister Tomislav Momirovic, the director of the Corridors of Serbia, Aleksandar Antic, and the acting director of the Roads of Serbia, Zoran Drobnjak.
