Western Balkans 2030 conference organized by AHK Serbia on September 26-27 in Belgrade
The countries of the Western Balkans, AHK Serbia emphasizes, continue to be an extremely important region for the EU with respect to economic and security policy. This was also underlined most recently within the framework of the EU-Western Balkans Summit, held on May 17, 2018 in Sofia with its repeated emphasis on the accession perspectives for the countries of this region. The Sofia Declaration says that the Western Balkan countries should continue to carry out reforms in the rule of law, fight corruption and organized crime and honor human and minority rights. Will these goals be fulfilled within a reasonable time frame? Is 2030 that year?
German-Serbian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK Serbia) and the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations represent interests of the strengthening of economic cooperation between the EU and the Western Balkans. Thomas Schieb, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Serbia, Ronald Seeliger, President of the German-Serbian Chamber of Commerce, and Janusz Kulik, Member of the board, German Eastern Business Association, Speaker of the working group on South Eastern Europe, will open the conference.
In one hour-long discussion rounds, different, even opposing perspectives on the economy, politics, and civil society will be discussed. These include aspects such as economic development, external influences, connectivity, digitalization, the future of democracy, or brain drain versus brain gain.
The regional economic conference will conclude with the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Zoran Djindjic Internship Programme, which will be attended by Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and the director of the foundation, Ruzica Djindjic. In the past 15 years, more than 700 young professionals have passed through the program, which is coordinated by the foundation and the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations, with the financial support of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Entrance is free, and more information about the conference can be found HERE.
