Reconstruction of Nis-Dimitrovgrad Railroad Starts
The realization of this project started with the works on the open railroad section between the rail stations Stanicenje and Pirot, around seven and a half kilometers long. The works started from the exit from the Stanicenje station toward the entrance to the Pirot station.
The Stanicenje-Pirot section is the first phase of the works within the reconstruction and modernization of the Sicevo-Dimitrovgrad railroad, 86 kilometers long. The reconstruction and modernization of the Sicevo-Dimitrovgrad railroad entails construction works and preparatory works for electrification and signalization, as well as the electrification of this section.
For the project of the reconstruction and modernization of the Sicevo-Dimitrovgrad railroad, the selected contractor is the consortium of the companies led by the Bulgarian company Trace Group Hold PLC and also including Consorzio Armatori Ferroviari S.C.P.A and Start - Engineering JSC.
The value of the agreement for the modernization of the Sicevo-Dimitrovgrad railroad is around EUR 169.7 million, and the deadline period for the completion of this job is 1,276 days, that is, three and a half years.
The works on the reconstruction of the civil engineering infrastructure are to be done on the railroad first, and upon their completion, the works on the electrification and installation of modern signalization-safety and telecommunications devices are to be done.
The project is financed from a loan from the European Investment Bank and the budget of the Republic of Serbia, as well as from a donation of the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF).
The project of the reconstruction and modernization of the Nis-Dimitrovgrad railroad encompasses the reconstruction, modernization and electrification of the existing Nis-Dimitrovgrad railroad, the construction of a new, one-track, electrified, bypass railroad around Nis around 22 kilometers long, as well as the modernization of the signalization and TC systems for the entire project.
