Mihajlovic: Serbia to build gas interconnectors worth EUR 350 million
- This will ensure about eight billion cubic meters of gas, that we can obtain from the environment - said Mihajlovic during a guest appearance on TV Happy.
She stressed that next year, with the completion of the Nis-Dimitrovgrad gas pipeline, Serbia will no longer depend on a single supplier and will be connected to the LNG terminal in Greece and to gas pipelines that deliver gas from Azerbaijan and the Caspian region.
- We plan on building interconnections to other neighbors as well, because that's the only way we can be energy secure - the minister added, as per the Government's official website.
During the presentation of Serbia's national energy and climate plan until 2030, the head of the EU Delegation in Serbia, Emanuele Giofre, said that, in addition to the ongoing works on the gas interconnector between Bulgaria and Serbia, a new interconnector with North Macedonia is also underway. This has been confirmed by Mihajlovic, saying that the construction of an interconnection with North Macedonia is being discussed.
The formation of a working group for the construction of a gas interconnection between the two countries was agreed upon in November last year, and this gas connection was predicted in the EU investment plan for the Western Balkans.
