Lower soy yields in central Serbia – More wheat and corn produced
He points out that, regardless of the climate conditions, more wheat and corn was produced this year than the domestic market needs, which is why the exports will be in the plus.
Sakovic pointed out for Tanjug that the harvesting of soy, which ended in September, was lower primarily due to the drought.
– Higher temperatures have reduced the yield, but we expect 320,000 to 350,000 tons of soy to be exported by New Year. The average yield was around three tons per hectare, compared to last year's 3.5 tons – Sakovic said and added that, after the harvest, Serbia had 936,000 tons of soy, of which around 500,000 tons were used for domestic needs.
As he says, regarding the sowing of wheat, it is sown on 550,000 to 650,000 hectares in the past seven years. According to Sakovic, around 550,000 hectares are expected this year, more than the domestic market needs.
– There was not enough humidity at the moment of the sowing, but it did rain eventually, so the yields are good. The weather was more favorable than last year – Sakovic said.
As he added, this year was good for the production of corn, and yields of 7.7 million tons were recorded.
– We are at the top when it comes to the production of corn. Only those who sow genetically modified varieties have greater yields. It is realistic to expect an export of around three million tons of corn – Sakovic emphasized.
