Shoulder to shoulder with competition from Vienna - marina opened in Apatin

The President of the Executive Council of Vojvodina, Bojan Pajtić, visited Apatin on July 24, 2009, and opened newly built International marina on the Danube. On that occasion, the President of the Executive Council and the Mayor of municipality of Apatin, Živorad Smiljanić, revealed eight-meter sculpture of Greek goddess of victory Nike with Andrey's cross, which is situated on the bank, above moorings for yachts and boats.

The marina has got high international category "four anchors", which makes it one of the most modern and most complete piers for tourist vessels on the Danube. In addition to 400 moorings for yacths and boats, 120 of which are intended for larger yachts, there are numerous accompanying contents. Besides the one in Vienna, the marina in Apatin is the only marina in Europe that has a pump on the pontoon, a ramp for lowering boats, a large parking lot, suites and nautical club, and total value of this investment is 3.5m EUR.

- We have already showed that we know how to fight the crisis, and one of the results is 20,000 newly created jobs. International marina in Apatin also shows that we are not only able to be equal, but also the best, because this tourist port is unique on the Danube. I am sure that this will be the beginning of a new era in tourist use of this river and that the marina in Apatin represents the foundations for future development of nautical tourism in Vojvodina. Besides, 670m RSD that the Province has invested in municipality of Apatin through its funds will provide necessary infrastructural and tourist facilities, such as aqua park, water factory, cargo-trade center, which will make the beginning of mass use of the Danube and its resources much easier - said Pajtić.

In addition to the President of the Provincial Government, the opening ceremony of the International marina on the Danube was attended by the members of the Executive Council - Jovica Đukić, Dragoslav Petrović and Miroslav Vasin, the Vice Presidents of the Parliament of Vojvodina - Branislava Belić and Siniša Lazić, and Irinej, the bishop of Bačka.
