European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel stated that mobile data in roaming will be cheaper for EU and Western Balkans citizens beginning with the next summer, costing EUR 0.7 per megabyte.

– Providers have obliged to offer data packages with prices of one megabyte several times lower than the current ones from August 1, 2018. Our goal is for the single price for all Western Balkans and EU countries to be EUR 0.7 per megabyte in July 2019 – Gabriel said.

Media report that she expects one megabyte to cost 45 cents in 2020 and 20 by 2021. Gabriel emphasized that the lower prices would pertain to mobile internet, not to conversations.

– There's also a plan for an expansion of the regional roaming agreement, which has existed between providers in Serbia, Macedonia, Montenegro and B&H since 2014. During the Digital Summit EU – Western Balkans, it will be expanded on June 13 to include all the countries in the Balkans – Gabriel emphasized.

On May 17, at the EU – Western Balkans Summit in Sofia, EUR 30 million was set aside for investments in the broadband network for the Western Balkans.
