Ryanair to launch air service from Banjaluka in November – Belgium and Germany first destinations
Tickets for the new routes (EUR 19.99) are already available for purchase through Ryanair's website, the company announced.
– This is a big day for our airport, the City of Banjaluka, Republika Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Our citizens will be able to reach over 90 destinations in several European states through Brussels and Memmingen. Young people will travel more, and our friends from Europe will be able to visit us much more easily and discover the beauty of Banjaluka and its region – said Dusko Kovacevic, director of the Banjaluka Airport.
The Prime Minister of Republika Srpska, Zeljka Cvijanovic, said that several additional destinations would also be launched by the airline in the coming period, EX YU Aviation News reports.
Ryanair had previously held talks with Banja Luka Airport back in 2006, however, they did not prove successful. Furthermore, the no frills carrier had also negotiated with both Mostar and Tuzla airports in the past over potential services.
Banjaluka Airport has struggled to attract new carriers over the past few years due to its reluctance to work with budget airlines. Apart from the five weekly flights operated by Air Serbia to and from Belgrade, the airport will see charter services to Antalya from June. In addition, talks are ongoing about the introduction of charter services to Tivat.
Banjaluka Airport welcomed slightly over 3,000 passengers during the first quarter of the year, down 13.2%.
