Nikola Tesla Airport is seeing a constant growth across all fields of business - the number of passengers has gone up 14% in 2015, the number of flights went is 6 percent bigger, whereas freight transportation has been increased by 40.6%, it was said Thursday at the presentation of airport projects at the Building Expo in Belgrade.

Ana Lukovic, investment and development manager at Nikola Tesla Airport, pointed out that 2014 was a record year for that company in all fields and the reason why the Airport had decided to boost its capacity.

Investments that the Belgrade airport plans to implement target local construction companies which can get familiar with the planned projects at the Building Expo.

The first and biggest investment project in the pipeline is the construction of finger pier C.

- The project calls for the expansion of the existing walkway, which will be expanded by additional 11,000 square meters, and that's the first greenfield investment in Nikola Tesla Airport in the last 20 years or so - said Lukovic.

Finger pier C, valued at EUR 15 million, will be built on 2 levels, and the plan is also to set up 4 new air bridges.

- The process of selecting designers is underway, so the preparation of project documentation should commence in about 10 days, whereas contractors will be appointed in October 2015 - said Lukovic.

In addition to air traffic boost, the plan is also to expand commercial facilities that ensure a large portion of revenue at airports around the globe, which is not the case with the Belgrade airport. In order for this to change, the plan is to build 3,000 square meters of commercial space. The deadline to finish all the work is summer 2016.

A much smaller project of the Airport in terms of both size and value is the Aircraft Defrosting and Icing Prevention Platform. Selection of designers is in progress, while October 2015 will see the appointment of contractor for this project.

Nikola Tesla Airport has also announced reorganization and adaptation of Terminal 1, in which about EUR 2 million will be invested, and this project will be implemented in phases. The first phase will see the set-up of new border crossing with 4 channels. Project documentation is completed, and so is the tender for contractors, which means that the contractor could be picked and that works could commence in about 10 days.

The second phase will focus on commercial space on the ground floor, for which a request for proposal should be issued in next two or three weeks.

An investment of half a million euros is planned for the construction of official passage D, and bids from interested contractors should be invited next week.

The plan is also the have the hot water pipeline to Terminal 1 and 2 reconstructed and to build a new branch of that pipeline to the new facility - finger pier C. The value of this investment is EUR 400,000, and bids from prospective contractors should be invited in September 2015.

Although it is in good condition, people at Nikola Tesla Airport also plan to have the runway reconstructed.

Nikola Tesla Airport officials expect these projects to increase capacity and revenues by 35%.
