Bathing in winter in Indjija - Municipality plans to build indoor swimming pool

In order to complete the offer in the local sports and recreational zone, people in Indjija have decided to build an indoor swimming pool as well. They don't know when the construction will start because the money has not been provided yet, but all other details and the look of this sports complex are already known.

- The plan is to build an Olympic swimming pool and a pool for recreational athletes of various ages. In addition to these pools, the complex should also comprise a cafe-restaurant, stands, locker rooms with toilets, administrative offices, infirmary, fitness center, gym, massage rooms, sauna, Turkish bath, etc. – Milivoje Simic from the Indjija Development Directorate says in a talk with eKapija.

People living in this municipality in Srem already have outdoor swimming pools at their disposal. The complex featuring an indoor swimming pool and spanning about 8,300 square meters will be built exactly on the neighboring land lot.

- Since there is not even one indoor swimming pool in Indjija and its surroundings, that is, there is none in the whole area between Belgrade and Novi Sad, and given that the interest in such feature is huge, we've made a decision to have designs drawn for an Olympic indoor swimming pool with accompanying amenities - our interlocutor explains.

This indoor pool will be used by primary and secondary schools, sports organizations, recreational athletes and all inhabitants of Indjija and neighboring municipalities, including Stara Pazova, Ruma, Irig, etc.

- After monitoring the work of outdoor swimming pools for few years, we've came to a conclusion that there is a big need for the use of swimming pools during both summer and the rest of the year. The new swimming pool of Olympic dimensions will feature stands, so we will be able to use it to organize certain contests, matches and events.

Work on preliminary and final designs for this project is entrusted to Miodrag Mirkovic, professor at the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade.

Simic points out that the water from a local geothermal spring will be used to heat and cool the facility, as well as to heat the water in pools for recreational athletes.

The value of this investment will be known after final designs are finished. Part of the money for the construction of the swimming pool complex will be provided from the municipal budget, while the rest should be contributed by competent republic and provincial organizations and funds.

- Implementation of this indoor swimming pool project depends on whether required funds are secured. We will know the estimated value of this investment once final designs are finished, and we will then know when the construction can start and when the swimming pool complex will be completed and opened to visitors – says Simic.
