A proposal for regulation of the zone 8 in Petrovaradin was adopted yesterday at the session of the Council for Urbanism, Office Space and Housing Issues of the City Assembly of Novi Sad so that the plan now is that 5,5 ha between the streets Racka and Preradoviceva be turned into a housing project.
The housing project should occupy the area around Rokov Potok brook. Old facilities in that part of Petrovaradin should be torn down and buildings with two floors and attic should be built in their location. The area around the brook should be turned into a pedestrian zone, with bike trails and greenery, and the residential part of the complex should be facing that side, while office space will be built on the side facing the streets Preradoviceva and Racka.
In the northern part of the block in Petrovaradin, a junction is planned to be built with an access to Miseluk, meaning that the market now situated in that location will be moved to a new facility. At the wish of Petrovaradin local community, this facility within the new housing project should comprise a cinema hall and a youth center.
- Two rows of mostly multifamily buildings alongside the streets Preradoviceva and Racka will be formed of semi-atrium segments. Business premises will be oriented toward the streets, while residential units will be maximally oriented toward yards and the brook. Construction is conditioned by demolition of existing buildings, merger of two lots into one, garaging of vehicles in the basement of each building, and provision of access from important roads. Vehicles will not be allowed in yards, which will enable linking of a five-meter alley, running parallel to the bike trail and pedestrian walk, with spots of flowers and green slanting areas alongside the brook - graduate engineer of architecture Biljana Pavlovic, the author of the plan, says for eKapija.
As she explains, this housing project is expected to have six times more inhabitants than registered, while the capacity of construction will be five times larger.
