Plan that Louvre, Versailles and Orsay work seven days in a week
Starting from next year, the French government is planning that three best visited museums - Louvre, Versailles and Orsay – are open seven days in a week. The measure is a part of the planned budget for culture in 2015.
Extension of working week will be effective as of 2015 to 2017 and it was planned after consulting with staff representatives, the Ministry of Culture of France announced.
- Opening of three most visited national museums during the week will enable better reception of visitors and availability of the works of art– it was stated at the proposal of the Law on funding for 2015.
At the moment, these institutions are closed Mondays or Tuesdays.
More than 9, 2 million people per year visits Louvre which is the world record while seven million visit Versailles and 3,5 million visit Orsay.
In London, the biggest museums such as the British museum and the National gallery are open during the entire week, just like Museum of modern arts in New York.
Management of Madrid-based Prado museum decided in late 2011 that this institutions should be open during the whole week.
