Railway on Corridor 10 to be reconstructed by 2016
The General Manager of the public company Zeleznica Srbije, Dragoljub Simonovic said from Tanjug in Pirot upon touring international railroad along the Corridor 10 that in the next three years this railroad will enable trains to develop 120 km per hour speed.
- International transport in transit is the core of our transport. Since this is the railroad form Corridor 10 and that it was planned for reconstruction from the Czech loan, I thing in three years we will come to the situation that we develop a speed of 120 km per hour – Simonovic said and added that these speeds are very low now.
According to him, if we electrify this railroad and procure new vehicle and we will reach up to 40-50 new vehicles, it will significantly wake up this region.
He said that Nis-Dimitrovgrad railroad electrification, 90 km long, will be carried out in two segments.
- The first part of the loan totals some EUR 60 mil which will be enough for something more than 40 km of railroad. We should complete investments within three years and after that there is a new part of the loan of EU 60 mil for completion of the second part of the railroad – Simonovic said.
For a part of the railway from the south part of Nis towards Vranje, Ristovac and Presevo, price contracting from the Russian loan has not finished yet but the director of Zeleznica counts that with the funds at disposal from the overall amount we will finish the entire railway reconstruction.
Simonovic also stated that the overall condition of the railway infrastructure in Dimitrovgrad and Pirot is better than it was expected.
