General manager of "Serbian Railways", Milanko Šarančić, stated that the railways in the region of Southeast Europe, which were not yet the members of European Union, expected financial support, in form of non-refundable means, for investments in the railway capacities.

At the meeting between the general managers of railways in central and southeast Europe and the Head of the EU Directorate for Transportation and Energy, Matias Rute, Šarančić warned that, without some significant investments in the infrastructure, procurement of railway means and equalized conditions, the railways in this region could not be equal competitors in Europe.

According to his opinion, over 1 billion EUR will be needed for investments into the international Corridor 10 on the territory of Serbia prior to 2010. Having in mind that, over past few years, about 45m EUR have been invested in that Corridor from the credit of the European Investment Bank, which means that another 975m EUR are missing for organization of that railway route.
