EBRD to Loan EUR 17 Million to City of Belgrade for Construction of Pedestrian-Cycling Bridge Between New Belgrade and Ada Ciganlija

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has announced that it will approve a loan of EUR 17 million to the City of Belgrade for the construction of a pedestrian-cycling bridge between New Belgrade and Ada Ciganlija on the Sava.

It is added that the loan approval date will be June 28, 2024, and that the entire project costs EUR 20 million.

– The construction of a pedestrian-cycling bridge on the Sava is part of the strategic orientation of the City toward inciting cycling as a clean means of transport, improving the availability and connecting the most populated area of Belgrade (New Belgrade) with the main natural recreational zone of the city (Ada Ciganlija) – the EBRD says in the announcement.

Recently, the president of the Temporary Organ of Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapic, announced that the construction of the pedestrian-cycling bridge, which would connect New Belgrade from Block 70 to Ada Ciganlija, would begin in the spring of 2024.

He added that around 12 months would be needed for the job.

– The topic of a pedestrian-cycling bridge has been current for years back and it has never progressed beyond words and a vague idea. Several days ago, we signed the protocol of financing with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the value of the project is EUR 15 to 17 million – Sapic pointed out at the time.

Let us remind that the construction of the bridge has been announced for years back and that it was also announced for 2021.
