How Will Road Toll Be Charged for Freight Trucks?
At the beginning of the year, the PE Roads of Serbia opened the public procurement procedure seeking experts that would design the system of charging road toll to freight trucks on lower-grade roads as well. Minister Vesic reveals what it will look like.
– Portals will be created which will record all this, and beneath them, there will be a weighbridge in the asphalt, which will measure the axle load of the truck – Goran Vesic clarified and added:
– There are several reasons for this move. The traffic will be redirected to first-grade roads, because the trucks in transit avoid paying the road toll, thereby destroying smaller, local roads due to the load they carry. Another reason is that large trucks are overloaded, causing additional damage to the roads. So, the country invests money in the reconstruction of a road which ends up being destroyed only several years later. Such solutions already exist in EU states and it’s time for Serbia to protect its roads.
