Innovation from University of Belgrade – New Antivirus Agent to Get EUR 120,000 for Further Development

The new antivirus agent, the recently licensed innovation from the University of Belgrade, has received financial support of EUR 120,000 for the further development in Serbia.

The new antivirus agent was discovered by an international team of researchers led by Dr Uros Andjelkovic, a senior research fellow at the Institute for Chemistry, Technology and Metallurgy (IHTM), as announced on the website of the University of Belgrade.

The Innovation Fund of Serbia, with the support of the pre-accession funds of the European Union, through the early development program, has approved financing of EUR 80,000 for the continued development of a new antivirus agent. Finances of EUR 40,000 were provided by private investors and biopharmaceutical companies. The aim of the project is to increase the level of technological preparedness in the next 12 months.

The development of this biopharmaceutical is a long and uncertain process which requires great human and material resources. The project of the development of the new antivirus agent is a pioneering project in these areas when it comes to biological medicines. The help of state funds is of essential importance in the early phase of the development of pharmaceuticals. At the same time, the support to this project of the development of a new potential medicine is of great importance for the raising of the overall level of knowledge and capabilities of the university and the economy in the field of development of biopharmaceuticals.
