Serbia, Albania and North Macedonia to Form Council for Quicker Flow of Goods

Serbia, Albania and North Macedonia will form the Implementation Council so as to accelerate the flow of goods, services, people and capital as soon as possible and establish a system of single work permits for the citizens of the three states in early 2022, stated Marko Cadez, the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia, following today’s meeting of the leaders of Serbia, Albania and North Macedonia with business people of the region and the Atlantic Council, within the Open Balkans initiative.

– We have agreed to further accelerate this process and form a council which will feature representatives of the chambers of commerce and the competent ministers of the three states. Each week, the members of the council will report to the leaders of the three countries about what has been done and what needs to be done – Cadez said.

The president of the CCIS pointed out that it was important for companies which operate in Serbia, Albania and North Macedonia to have an equal treatment and possibility of doing business in all three states.

– It was important for business people to have an open conversation with the leaders of Serbia, Albania and North Macedonia about how to accelerate the flow of goods, services and capital through these three countries – pointed out the president of the CCIS.


A total of 22 holding companies which operate in all the countries of the Open Balkans initiative, employ around 50,000 people in the whole region and have an annual turnover higher than EUR 4 billion, took part in the meeting, Cadez said.

Cadez pointed out that it was important for the problem of the mutual recognition of the phytosanitary and veterinary documentation to be solved before the next meeting of business people and representatives of the three states in Tirana, which is to take place next month.
