Novi Sad-based Panšped plans to have a modern cargo terminal built at the railway station in that city and invest few million euros in it. Pansped CEO Predrag Stojanović told eKapija that the company had started realization of that project. The procurement of locomotives, cars and the necessary license will make that company one of the first private railway operators in Serbia.

- We already have 40 cars in our possession, as well as a modernly equipped warehouse at 5,000 square meters and rented railway tracks at the freight railway station in Novi Sad. Next year we plan to procure first locomotives in order to be able to start the work. Before all that, it is necessary that the Government of Serbia adopts a sublegal act to enable the work of private railway companies. We have already submitted all the papers for the license and expect that sublegal act to be adopted by the end of 2010 - our interlocutor explained.

As he said, the new service will increase the satisfaction of clients, costs will be optimized, while Pansped will be able to control the flow of goods.

Pansped primarily directs sea transportation at Bar harbor because, as Stojanovic explains, ports in Rijeka and Kopar are overcrowded, while the port of Bar is insufficiently used.

If it becomes a private railway company, Pansped will intensify cooperation with Bar-based company Container Terminal and General Cargo, as well as with the Serbian and Montenegrin railways.

Stojanović points out that, in addition to container transportation, the railways are mainly used for transportation of coal, stone, propylene, crude oil, chemicals and consumer goods, while some of the clients are Carlsberg, U.S. Steel, HIP Petrohemija, WEG Beograd, Avala Ada.

Pansped is a family company that has celebrated the 20th anniversary of operations on this territory. It also won the 2010 Business Partner Award, which was granted last night (June 16, 2010) in Belgrade-based hotel Continental.
