The water from a new filtering facility has been released into the water supply system in Zrenjanin.

The ban on the use of drinking water has been in effect for more than 14 years in this town, the Town Administration of Zrenjanin said.

Although the quality of the water will improve noticeably, the decision from 2004 will remain in effect until the competent institutions abolish it, the press release says. The water from the new filtering facility was released into the system after the equipment was tested and the test run prepared. Previously, the PUE Vodovod i Kanalizacija authorized the consortium of investors for the construction of the water treatment facility to release the filtered water from the facility, as per their request.

During the testing phase, the entire water supply will be carried out through the facility, with continuous analysis and control of water quality by the investors, the PUE Vodovod i Kanalizacija and authorized laboratories.

The ban was installed in 2004 due to excessive amounts of arsenic in the water. The agreement on the public procurement procedure for water treatment was signed in February 2015 with the consortium consisting of the Belgrade and the Novi Sad branches of Gruppo ZILIO S.P.A. and Synertech Belgrade.
