Belgrade has five twin cities in the world
Its twins are Shanghai, Ljubljana, Chicago, Corfu and Coventry, and some of these bonds are over half a century long, says the Belgrade City Administration.
The latest twinning agreement was signed this May with Shanghai, the administration says and adds that it is very important for Belgrade to learn from big cities.
In 2017, Belgrade signed six documents on international cooperation, with Sarajevo, Rabat, Moscow, Seoul, the province of Hunan and Shanghai, which was brought to a higher level this year.
In 2016, protocols of cooperation were signed with Astana, Tehran and Bern. Belgrade has been maintaining special bonds with Minsk since 2014, with Skopje since 2012, with Podgorica since 2010, with Shenzhen since 2009, with Banjaluka since 2005 and with Zagreb since 2003.
Belgrade and Kiev signed a protocol of cooperation in 2002, and the one with Bucharest was signed in 1999. The protocol of cooperation with Tel Aviv was signed in 1990, with Beijing 10 years before, with Berlin 40 years ago, with Rome in 1971, with Budapest in 1970 and with Athens in 1966.
Belgrade's friendship with the city of Coventry is its oldest one. Its 60th anniversary was marked in 2017.
