Volkswagen has announced that it was fined EUR 1 billion by the German court over the scandal concerning the emission control software in diesel cars.

The company said that it will accept the penalty defined by the court in the German city of Brunswick.

It was determined that Volkswagen had not supervised the activities of its development sector properly, resulting in 10.7 million diesel vehicles featuring illegal emission control software being sold worldwide.

The scandal, revealed in the USA in 2015, has already cost the German car manufacturer huge amounts of money through fines set by the American authorities.
