The Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, the Ministry of Finance, the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) invited local self-governments on September 28 to apply for support within the Property Tax Reform Program – support to enhancement of property tax and good governance.

The application deadline is October 31, 2017.

The total funds amount to CHF 5.9 million and will be directed at 40 local self-government units for the purpose of enhancing administrative activities, putting into order property tax records and strengthening good governance, the press release says.

The support packages for local self-government units entail the provision of expert help and knowledge in the field of enhancing the administrative activities related to property tax.

Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Branko Ruzic invited towns and municipalities to apply and secure funds for putting the real estate databases into order in their territories.

– This will enable a better collection of property tax, increase the own revenues of local self-governments and enable them to overcome financial difficulties or invest in the development of their communities, to the benefit of all our citizens – Ruzic said on the occasion of the opening of the public invitation for the program.

The head of the Property Tax Reform project, Alexander Grunauer, said that the program stimulated joining and cooperation of local self-governments.

– Municipalities linked geographically, which apply together, will be additionally valued – he said.

All the documents needed for the application, as well as the information on which local self-governments may apply, can be found on the web pages of the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government and the Standing Conference of Towns and Municipalities.

The Property Tax Reform project will take four years and is the result of cooperation between the Ministry of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, the Ministry of Finance and the Swiss government, which has provided the funds.
