The Swiss Stem Cell Bank, which owns the FACT Net Cord standard, has recently opened its representation in Belgrade. The bank is meant for implementation in therapy for leukemia and other malignant diseases, where stem cells are used for transplantation.

Medical Director of SSCB, Veronica Albertini, explains that the FACT Net Cord accreditation is a proof of dedication to controlling every aspect of stem cell preservation, which influences sample quality.

– The banks which have this accreditation operate in line with the biggest global standards – Albertini emphasizes.

There are only seven private stem cell banks in the world that have been certified in line with the FACT Net Cord accreditation.

The first successful transplantation of cord blood stem cells was performed in 1988 in Paris on a child suffering from Fanconi anemia, with the newborn sister as the donor.

At this point, over 4,500 clinics worldwide use stem cells in treating numerous diseases in hematology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, dermatology and other fields, whereas, 10 years ago, the number of said clinical tests was around 400.
