IKEA continues investing in Croatia – Construction of Designer Outlet Croatia begins
As reported, Designer Outlet Croatia is to be built by Strabag in line with the highest standards of sustainable development, as confirmed by the international green building certificate BREEAM. Strabag was awarded the contract worth over EUR 22.5 million at an international tender. The company has taken part in the construction of a range of big projects in Croatia, including the IKEA Zagreb department store.
The investment in Designer Outlet Croatia is a joint endeavor of IKEA Centres and the Swiss Mutschler Outlet Holding AG. These companies are already cooperating in realizing the Designer Outlet Algarve project in Portugal, the opening of which is expected to take place this autumn.
The biggest outlet complex in Croatia will be run by the consulting company ROS Retail Outlet Shopping, a renowned Austrian designer outlet manager, which runs and develops outlet centers throughout Europe, including Shopping Brugnato Outlet Village in Italy, Premier Outlet Budapest in Hungary, Designer Outlet Soltau in Germany and others.
– This project is a continuation of IKEA Group's investments in Croatia. After the investment of EUR 100 million in the IKEA Zagreb project, we are now investing an additional EUR 88 million for the two phases of the construction of Designer Outlet Croatia and the accompanying features – pointed out Branko Mihajlov, the director of Designer Outlet Croatia.
An additional quality of this project are the architectural features of this designer outlet, inspired by Croatian regions and designed by Integrated Design ATP Architect Engineers. Designer Outlet Croatia will be built in two phases, and the first phases is expected to be completed in the spring of 2018. Designer Outlet Croatia will take up more than 15,000 square meters and have 90 outlets of 170 m2 on average by then. The outlets may be merged into larger stores, the press release says.
