Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday, July 21, to the representatives of the World Bank in Belgrade and to the IMF that they had come to a turning point for the recovery of Serbian economy.

A the meeting, Vucic thanked the World Bank for the great help it had given to Serbia and for its wish to help make Serbia a macro-economically stable country on the way to development and prosperity and emphasized that Serbia’s results were above average and that the budget surplus proved that.

Tony Verheijen, the World Bank Country Manager for Serbia, stated that Serbia achieved great results relative to the goals it had set and especially pointed out the strengthening of investments in the private sector, which had been contributed to by positive fiscal trends.

One of the topics of the conversation was the need to adopt an employee optimization plan for EPS and an analysis of the general state of the enterprise, which both international financial institutions insist on.

There was talk at the meeting about the completion of the World Banks expert mission, and the realization of the fiscal consolidation plan for EPS, adopted last June.

The prime minister pointed out that Serbia had the highest GDP growth rate in the region at the end of the first six months of the year, as well as the highest growth rate in Europe. He asked both financial institutions to send expert teams to Serbia which would, along with local experts, contribute to defining efficient measures for increasing the growth rate of GDP in the years to come.

Vucic pointed to the importance of infrastructural projects and the timely adoption of the Law on Financing Local Self-Government before the beginning of the process of preparing the budget for the next year.
