Deutsche Bahn announces trains without engineers
- We need to offer more to the clients through digitalization and the unions are aware that the world is changing along with it – said Grube and added that, in the future, the company will cooperate more with startups.
Diesel locomotives will be equipped with, among other things, cameras and sensors. The system should reliably discover obstacles and stop the train when problems occur.
However, in order for the trains to be steered automatically, both technical and legal issues need to be solved, which is lot more complex than in closed systems like underground railways.
