(Snezana Bogosavljevic Bodjkovic) The Minister of agriculture and environmental protection Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic has said today that the basic objective of changes to the Law on agricultural land is efficient usage of land which is state-owned and attracting investors to Serbia.

She outlined Serbia has 830.000 ha of land which is state-owned, 260.000 ha of which is to be rented.

Annual rent from land which is rented totals EUR 51 m and damage for non-renting remaining state-owned land is more than EUR 100 m, the minister added.

According to her words, state-owned land is used by individuals apart from the law and without paying a fee and it is hard to run a dispute against them of compensate the damage.

Bogosavljevic-Boskovic said changes of the law imply that land is rented to up to 30 years to local legal entities and citizens and added that long-term rent increases security during investing in agricultural production.

As it was communicated, Serbia has a total of five million hectares, 3,5 m of which are cultivating fields, gardens and vineyards and the rest goes to meadows and grazing lands.
