Neven Vrankovic, the vice president of corporate affairs at Croatia's Atlantic Grupa, announced that the company planned to close its factory in Germany and move it to the region because they found it hard to negotiate with German trade unions.
Vrankovic said that revenues from the region accounted for 75% of total revenues generated by Atlantic Grupa, adding that the growth in that field was no longer satisfying their ambition.
- Our absolute priority is the EU market. But factories will remain in the region, where 18 out of 19 of them are situated. We plan to close the factory in Germany and open it in the region because it is hard for us to negotiate with trade unions in Germany because the social sensitivity of manpower there is much different than in the region - he said.
According to him, out of 2,500 products, Atlantic Grupa can market only about 30 high-value ones outside the region as only them can keep up with the competition in the EU.
Oona Schreiner, an EBRD representative, said that Croatia had a huge potential in the food industry, that the value of its market was at EUR 12 billion and that it was smaller than the Austrian market of EUR 56 billion, but she stressed that groceries in both countries accounted for the same percentage of consumption - 42%.
