Google plans to remove all external apps for the recording of phone calls on mobile devices from Play Store, as reported by the 021 portal.

Within Android 10, Google disabled the call recording option as the default setting, and from May 11, 2022, the company is implementing new rules for Google Play Store. Under the new rules, external apps are prevented from using the Accessibility API for recording audio calls.

Said changes within the terms-of-use policy are implemented in order to increase the users’ privacy and security, especially due to the fact that call recording law regulations vary considerably from state to state.

Pre-installed system apps, which already have a permit to access the Accessibility API, are exempt from this change and the removal will not apply to them. This pertains to Pixel and Xiaomi devices, which have their own call recording apps.

These devices are considered to have a native call recording functionality, but there is a possibility that, in the future, some additional rules for such situations will be implemented as well.
