If water consumption trends and population growth continue to rise, it is estimated that the third of human population will suffer from water shortage by 2025. Considering the fact that humans need only 1.5% of the whole amount of world water consumption, while industry needs almost 70%, it is important that food industry and agricultural producers participate in sustainable water system and waste water drainage development, said Snezana Bogosavljevic Boskovic, Minister of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, at the opening ceremony of water treatment plant in "Nestle Adriatic" company in Surcin.

Since the year 2012, when "Nestle" completed acquisition of "Centroproizvod", it has invested EUR 5 million to improve production, while water treatment plants in factories in Surcin and Stara Pazova got EUR 1.5 million investments.

-When it comes to water protection and increase of efficiency of natural resources exploitation, "Nestle" invested EUR 1.2 million in its factory in Surcin to build a plant for waste water treatment in accordance with global standards of the company. Current maximum capacity is 160 cubic meters per day. The process provides clear water after the treatment, which goes back into nature – said Ansgar Bornemann, CEO of "Nestle Adriatic". Additional EUR 300,000 was invested in water treatment in "Nestle" ice-cream factory in Stara Pazova.

Factory and Integration manager at "Nestle" in Surcin, Georgios Galanos, said that water consumption in Surcin is reduced by 60%, saving of 35,000 m3, equal to 14 olympic swimming pools or more than 1,700 water tanks. Water system is renewed in the whole factory, where 4 km of new pipelines is installed.

- Production in Serbia is in accordance with high-quality standards which "Nestle" company applies in its factories in the world, says Galanos.

"Thomy" from Surcin

Former factory of spices and culinary products "Centroproizvod" in Surcin, except "C" brand, produces "Thomy" mayonnaise, relocated from the plants in Poland.

- In June 2012 "Nestle" Switzerland granted funds for supply of equipment for mayonnaise production, and in the first quarter of 2013 a test production commenced. Officially, production started in April last year – claims Georgios Galanos.

The interlocutor of "eKapija" points out that EUR 1.5 million is invested in current mayonnaise production and part of equipment comes from other "Nestle" factories.

Surcin plant produces 1,600 tons of "Thomy" mayonnaise annually and the greatest part of it is exported.

- We export to former Yugoslav republics, from Croatia to Macedonia. It is also planned to expand the export on other markets, first of all, Balkan markets, where we contact with other "Nestle" branch offices – says Galanos.

In February last year "Nestle" commenced a production of chicken broth under "halal" certificate, which is exported into Middle East, while ice-cream from the factory in Stara Pazova is already on EU market.

"Nestle" company operates in Serbia since 2005. It employs 950 people in the region, 722 of them in two factories in Serbia. As he said, they have plans to continue with "permanent business expansion".

- We expect permission for future investments, from the company in Switzerland by the end of June – says factory and integration manager at "Nestle Adriatics".
