More than 1,000 people are working in three to four shifts on the construction site of the Belgrade Plaza mall, and the opening is announced for the first half of 2017.

Minister of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Policy Aleksandar Vulin said on the occasion of his tour of the construction site that the Government of Serbia always found it encouraging to see something being built. Vulin said that it was encouraging that new jobs were being created, especially when it meant a possibility of enhancing the economic activity.

– Not only is a new mall being built here, but also representatives of business which have not been present in Serbia so far will come to the mall and, of course, the thing that always makes us happy is a large number of new employments and a large number of local producers, Serbian companies – Vulin said.

However, as Vulin pointed out, illegal employment is a great burden to the construction sector, against which the Labor Inspection is fighting. He specified that 30 subcontractors were working on the construction site, all of them Serbian companies.

– Over 1,000 people work here every day and this is something to be respected, which is why I am here today, on the Day of Construction Workers, to thank the investor for the hard work, regular salaries and, of course, work safety – the minister said.

Country Manager at Plaza Center Serbia Rabia Shihab said that the construction was going according to plan, that over 80% of the work had already been done, and that the space was being leased simultaneously with the construction, that is, that around 50% of lease contracts had been signed.

– The contracts include international lesees which are just now entering the Serbian market. The opening will take place in the first half of 2017. We are working in three to four shifts every day, with 300-350 workers in each shift, and, after the opening, we are planning to open more than 1,000 job positions – Shihab said.
