Parking servis to build EUR 10 million undergroung garage at Students Square - Selection of designers underway

City Manager Goran Vesic has announced that Parking servis (Parking Service) is going to finance the construction of underground garage at Students Square for 750 cars from its own resources. A request for proposal has been issued to choose a designer for this investment valued at EUR 10 million, which is expected to be done by the year's end, so the construction could commence in 2016, Beoinfo reports. Also, an invitation to bid has been released for the design of additional nine floors with 220 new parking spaces in Obilicev Venac garage, which is the busiest in the city, Vesic stressed.

– These two garages will reduce the number of missing parking spaces in Belgrade, which is currently at about 5,000. The city center is slowly becoming a pedestrian zone, and the plan for the next few years is to close the area between Zeleni Venac, Brace Jugovica Street, Republic Square and Pariska Street for traffic. One of the resulting obligations of the city is to provide a sufficient number of parking places - said Vesic.

The city manager also noted that it was most likely that new garages in Belgrade would be built through public private partnership, adding that Parking servis already had 16 locations ready.
