Interior Design Does Not Equal Space Decoration – Everything You Should Know, “Step by Step”

Everyone who wants to enter the business of interior design, whether of residential or office space, should first think about what kind of space they would find comfortable for living and working in, as well as the needs in that space, and set the budget for equipping. Choosing the interior designer is done in line with the personal sensibility and the information about the way they work, and we talked about how this process goes, “step by step”, with Violeta Pavicevic, an interior designer.

– The investor must provide the project task, the desired look of the space, the needs that the space needs to meet and the budget for it all. At the first meeting, the investor and the interior designer meet and negotiate about those things – our interviewee explains.

This is followed by the surveying of the facility, the drafting and the providing of propositions of future solutions.

Once the preliminary design is adopted, project preparation starts. The scope of the project and the interior designer’s activities depend on personal agreements. Sometimes it all end with the preliminary design, and sometimes it is followed through to the occupation of the space – she points out.

The process of equipping the interior is a serious and professional space and does not equal space decoration, Violeta emphasizes. You need, she advises, to put everything in the hands of a professional that you are sure will finish the job.

People often start the procedure themselves, which lasts until just before the works are finished. In the end, nothing fits anything, or is mismatched technically, which creates a big problem.

An interior design project needs to be concrete, clear and technically developed and entail a project of demolition, building, waterworks, electricity, lighting, flooring works, ceramics works, furniture, workshop drawings for the furniture, painting works, mechanical installations…

– Clients should be patient until the project is done, no matter how unnecessary it seems to them, because a good project means a lot of time saved in the execution of the works, which is the goal for everyone – she concludes.
