Office in My Attic

Many have moved their office to the attic in recent months.

Working from home has become a part of our everyday life in the past year, and a new office for many. Although we all bought desks a long time ago, we turned some corner of the home into a home office and it is still a big challenge for many to concentrate on work when they are at home all day.

In the last few months, we drink coffee and for the beginning of the working day, we climb the stairs to the study in the attic. As we spend most of our time in this room, we share with you a few tips on how to make your stay and work more pleasant. If you are planning to renovate your attic in the coming months in order to have more space, we believe these tips and ideas will be very useful to you.

Before you get down to business, we have one suggestion for you. Whatever the purpose of the room, be sure to make sure there is enough natural light. VELUX skylights will fill the space with daylight, natural light and fresh air.

The important reasons why you will adore skylights in your attic are:

1. Better lighting

You`ve probably heard that sunlight is the best lighting for your home. The reason is that natural light provides clear, white lighting, which casts several shadows, unlike artificial light, which emits yellow or blue.

2. Health

Natural, daylight and fresh air are a good source of energy and thus improve the mood.

3. Biorhythm

During the day, natural light helps to balance the biorhythm, so skylights are desirable in all rooms.

The optimal place for the desk is in the immediate vicinity of the window, with the light coming from the side. If the desk is located in the middle of the room, natural light can be provided by installing skylights. Daylight will also be pleasant for your little ones, if they do their homework in this room.

In the summer, it is good to protect the attic from overheating, so VELUX has prepared a special program of internal and external blinds, as well as external nets. During the winter, use the sun`s rays for free heating and a warmer home. Roof windows enable efficient ventilation because they are located high in the room, more precisely on the ceiling, where the air is automatically drawn in and out.

For rooms where you work or study, it is good to choose soothing and cooler tones that positively affect our productivity. Of course, the colors of the walls should be as bright as possible because they can affect whether the light will spread further in the room or create a dark, pleasant corner. Dark surfaces, such as carpets and larger pieces of furniture, absorb light and make the room darker.

When you need a break during the day, you can easily make coffee and enjoy the view and the fresh air.

Another tip - keep the window sill empty. Vases, plants and decorative items give your home character and create a good atmosphere, but if they are next to the window they can block the light. Of course, that doesn`t mean you can`t decorate your desk or shelves with a bouquet or a pot of your favorite flowers.

Add scented candles or essential oils, if that is what you like. Include relaxing, ambient music and that’s it. We believe that you will be satisfied with the atmosphere in the home, but also with the results of your work.
