Two years after raising an investment of EUR 1.1 million from North Base Media, Neveq and Eleven, Novi Sad-based Editorial Intelligence Start-up Content Insights raised a EUR 2 million pre-scale seed round led by South Central Ventures.
Content Insights provides the editorial tool Content Performance Indicator (CPI), a proprietary algorithm that provides clear assessment of content success and attributes it back to each writer, topic, section, and referrer.
Since the last investment, the number of team members has increased from 11 to 34. Their clients include Ringier Axel Springer, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Diario Noticias, Clarin, South China Morning Post, Daily Mail Group, De Persgroep...
– We are working on opening the door to the American market. These are big, world-renowned clients with strong positions and established sales organization and localized support, so I expect that we will have a good starting point for the penetration of the market – says Dejan Nikolic, founder and CEO of Content Insights. He adds that the EUR 2 million investment is meant for the strengthening of the team in Serbia, marketing and stimulation of growth.
Content Insights is known for choosing investors not just for the funds but by what they can contribute to their business. Their investors so far are former managing editor of Wall Street Journal, former executive editor of The Washington Post, COO of Reuters-Thompson etc.
– They are still our investors, which took a lot of luck and networking. Finally, it also takes a lot of determination for taking risks. In order to include them in the round, I disassembled an established one, although we were running out of money. It was stressful, but it paid off.
At the moment, Content Insights has offices in Novi Sad, Sofia and Prague. The team has a deep background knowledge of the industry and employs some of the best talents in tech and data science but also journalism and editing.
– We are truly excited to be able to partner and contribute to further growth of Content Insights. The team has been able to build a scalable business around a unique and technologically superior product, which we believe will revolutionize the way journalists and content creator measure, monitor and monetize their content. I would say the company offers a “red pill” to the media landscape in which probably most of us feel increasingly over-newsed and under-informed – said Jan Kobler, Managing Partner at South Central Ventures.
