Project for repair of Pančevo bridge, reconstruction worth 20m EUR

The project for repair of the Pančevo bridge was delivered yesterday (March 30, 2007) to the Ministry of Capital Investments. The experts from CIP spent last six months determining the degree of damage of the most neglected bridge in the city. Making of the tender documentation for rehabilitation of the rusty bridge is to follow.

– On the basis of 3,000 samples taken from the bridge we have made the thorough project for repair of its entire length of 2.1 km. Everything goes pretty slowly in the country, but I honestly hope that that the repair works will start either in June or July – says Milutin Ignjatović, General Manager of Transportation Institute CIP.

Tender procedure, in case domestic contractors take part in the open competition, lasts for 30 days or so, while the international tender lasts for 3 to 6 months. Complete repair of the Pančevo bridge would last for, at least, one year. Each of the lanes will be closed to traffic on period of six months, which will definitely cause serious traffic jams. Announced repair of Gazela bridge, which should take place this summer, will make the problem with traffic even more serious.

The repair should cost about 20m EUR, which is the price foreseen by the project. The project alone cost 600,000 EUR and the money for that purpose has been set aside from the city budget.
