Construction of flats decreases for more than 40% in 2013

During the first four months of this year, the construction of flats in Serbia decreased for more than 40 % compared to the same period last year, a member of the operational team of the Construction-industrial chamber of Serbia, Goran Rodic, said on Monday.

Flat prices also continued to decrease, first of all, of those which occupy larger area at good locations even for some 15% compared to last year, while the price of small flats remained almost the same, Rodic said for Tanjug.

As for less attractive locations, flat prices fell by 5 -7%, a construction expert added.

Despite the fact that construction activities decreased, Serbia has good craftsmen, i.e. craftsmanship elite who is unfortunately decreasing in number because the state neglected employing young staff, Rodic said.

He said that only in the western Eurioe countries, there is a demand for some 100.000 craftsmen, engineers and designers who we currently do not have to offer. For instance, some 2500 our construction workers work in Germany.

- One of the basic tasks is to preserve Serbian construction and vocational elite but we must have quality engineering wirks and real estate market - Rodic mentioned, adding that new, young staff would be one of the priorities for the construction chamber.

Only 40 students in the whole Serbia enrolled schools with basic construction occupations, he added.

Currently, private investors put small efforts into new locations and new facilities, and the buildings which are built at the moment are mostly small because there are not enough buyers.

Flats are mostly built in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Subotica, Kragujevac and Krusevac, Rodic said.
