The City Council of Nis today adopted a decision to take over the site of Apelovac barracks from the Army of Serbia for a fee. Germany's Lidl market chain could be one of the prospective investors in that location.

- The fee to the Army can be paid in cash or apartments that will be built on that site, which will be the subject of an agreement with the future investor - Nis Mayor Zoran Perisic told the press after today's session, confirming that Lidl which owned a location in the Nis neighborhood Duvaniste was also interested in the site of Apelovac barracks.

- A public call for proposals will be announced, and we expect this location to attract more investors - said the mayor of Nis.

He also said that according to first estimates, the site spanning about one hectare was worth about EUR 1 million.

The City Council also adopted a decision to open a cultural center of Latin America in Nis.
