Fighting crisis with EUR 1 million energy-efficient building - Novi Sad-based Intec plans investment in hydroelectric and solar plants

Intec, a company that sells and services IT products, has been using this time of economic crisis to focus on a new project, that is, construction of its own energy-efficient office space. After applying solutions based on renewable energy sources in that facility, the Novi Sad-based company now plans to invest in solar and hydroelectric power plants in Serbia.

Intec has been operating for 20 years now, and the idea to build an office space to gather all company departments at one place dates back to 2008.

- When we were deciding on this investment, it was very important to us to know how we would be repaying a bank loan. We calculated that it would help us a lot to use renewable sources of energy because we could provide part of the money to pay loan installments through energy savings. According to our estimates, savings in certain segments go up to 70 percent, which, of course, affects our monthly expenditures. Minimum 25 percent of the loan will be covered with energy savings, while logistical advantages, such as merger of the storage space with the office space, will secure us 10 to 15 percent of the loan installment every month - Danilo Bjelica, director of Intec Novi Sad, says in a talk with eKapija.

According to our interlocutor, the facility should cost between 800,000 and 1m euros, and it is expected to be completed by June this year.

- Our company employs three experts in renewable sources of energy. We've consulted the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad and hired architects who worked on similar large projects in our country.

The construction work is entrusted to the Dijagonala company from Novi Sad because of its huge experience and the short deadlines it offers.

Bjelica points out that when it comes to renewable energy sources, the latest technologies have been applied.

- The use of heat pumps that draw water from geothermal springs will bring us the biggest savings.

Considering that many companies are shakened by the economic crisis, people at Intec were concerned with how the new investment would affect their operations.

- The previous year was quite turbulent, probably for all companies in the region. Now it seems to us that the lack of work was exactly what opened a time window in which we could focus on such project. It can be deemed a pilot project, given that there are very few other projects of the kind in our country. Such facility requires much effort and time, meaning that we would not be able to implement this project in normal business conditions - Bjelica stresses.

In early February Intec received a ProBusiness Leader award from ProCredit Bank for being a leader in the improvement of energy efficiency.

- Like many other companies, we as well are interested in power generation projects. The plan is to make investments in the following period, and we also have contacts abroad. We have some plans, but their implementation depends on the state's moves and regulations in the domain of energy efficiency - Bjelica underlines.

Business optimization

Intec was founded in 1990, and it mainly focused on the sale, distribution and implementation of IT devices and equipment in the first few years. Today, aside from standard services related to sales and servicing, the company's offer also includes a number of complete system solutions that are acknowledged worldwide through cooperation with some of the most famous companies in this sector, such as HP, Cannon, Fujitsu, Cisco, etc.

- We are keeping the pace with new technologies and trying to inspire our customers and users to do the same. Information technologies represent our core activity, and we believe to be among the top companies in Serbia in that domain. We are focused on solutions that are significant for the optimization of operations of any company. For example, we design solutions that reduce the costs of printing.

Intec is also trying to get Serbian companies familiar with document management solutions that are in trend around the world.
