Current freshmen at the Faculty of Security Studies should attend their third year lectures in a new building in New Belgrade's Block 67A, where this higher education institution plans to build a new teaching facility.
The City of Belgrade has allotted a 1.04-hectare plot situated in the vicinity of Delta City Shopping Center to the Republic of Serbia to build a facility of the Faculty of Security Studies on it.
As eKapija was told by Vladimir Cvetkovic, associate dean of finance at the Faculty and the head of the task force in charge of construction, the new building of the Faculty will cover an area of about 10,000 square meters, whereas the investment in that facility will amount to about EUR 5 million.
- Money for this construction project will be provided from several sources, mostly from the proceeds of a loan granted by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and we also expect some of our foreign partners to join its implementation.
The Faculty of Security Studies is one of the most popular faculties in Serbia. Classes are currently held on the premises of the Faculty in Gospodara Vucica Street, in a space spanning about 1,500 square meters, as well as in two amphitheaters at the Military Academy on the basis of an agreement, so that students of this higher education institution definitely require a new space.
According to Mr. Cvetkovic, construction should start as soon as a legal process related to the relocation of companies using this space is completed.
- Several companies have built some kind of bus repair facilities on this plot, and a legal proceeding related to their relocation is now underway. As soon as it is completed, all illegally built structures will be torn down and the planned construction works will commence.
The author of preliminary designs for the future building of the Faculty of Security Studies in New Belgrade is the Faculty of Architecture. According to our interlocutor, what is yet to be prepared is the main design. As Cvetkovic noted, it should take about a year to finish the construction works, and the new building is expected to become fully functional in about three years.
Based on preliminary designs, the Faculty's new building should have two floors. In addition to classrooms, amphitheaters, offices and a library, there should also be a 315 sqm shooting range and a 159 sqm fitness room on the ground floor of this facility.
Students, staff and visitors will have close to 60 parking places in the yard and another 16 in the faculty garage at their disposal.
The plan is also to build a fountain in the yard and to open a bar within the new building.
Offices and classrooms in the new facility in New Belgrade will be equipped and furnished in line with the highest standards. The building will be energy efficient, with vertical green areas on some of its facades and four gardens and solar panels on its roof.
The building is expected to become self-sustainable in less than five years.
