An underground garage should be built at Republic Square in Novi Sad within the next two years, Novi Sad Mayor Igor Pavlicic announced Thursday (26 April 2012) at the presentation of this project in the City Hall.

- The future city authorities will have a task to decide whether to finance this EUR 10 million worth of project from the city budget or to seek a private partner - Pavlicic added.

He explained that a preliminary design was already selected for the future Republic Square with a fish market, that the pedestrian zone would be widened in that area and that a garage would be built underneath the square, pointing out that it was one of the ways to solve the problem of parking.

Julija Lazic, a representative of the project organization Masinoprojekt Kopring from Belgrade, said at the project promotion that there should be two entrances to the future garage.

- The garage is not going to disturb the city structure. There will be 408 parking places on two underground floors spanning 14,000 square meters - Julija Lazic explained.

As it was announced on the website of Novi Sad, the area is divided into 4 semi-levels situated at the depths of -4.71m, -6.26m, -7.81m and -9.36m. All entrances will feature signal devices showing the number of available parking places. The facility of the garage will have all necessary installations and the prescribed number of fire exits, as well as emergency corridors.

The garage will include a central technical area featuring installation rooms, it will have a physical security control, video monitoring and uninterrupted power supply systems. The plan is also to use a cutting-edge underground hydro insulation, one of the world's top products in that field, reads the statement on the site.
