Univerexport market chain to invest €5 million in renovation works and new facilities by end of 2011

Novi Sad-based Univerexport market chain plans to finish the renovation of three large facilities in that city by the year's end. According to the words of Univerexport Director General Vesna Vucurevic, that is only part of the planned investments for 2011, for which EUR 5 million have been earmarked.

- These three facilities are very important to us since they were pioneers in our branch in 2002 and 2003. Now, after 8, 9 years of operations, we invest in them to increase their surface and equip them with new technologies.

Vucurevic says that aforementioned EUR 5 million will be invested in the renovation of the existing stores and in two new markets in Novi Sad. The net surface of these new facilities will amount to 500 square meters.

Univerexport markets are the most dominant in Vojvodina. They are present in Novi Sad, Vrsac, Zrenjanin, Backa Palanka, as well as in places around Novi Sad. The retail system of Univerexport currently includes a total of 35 markets, with over 1,000 permanent workers, and there is an affiliate of this company in Subotica - Trgopromet, of which retail network comprises 48 stores.

The first retail store in Belgrade was opened in August 2010, and Vucurevic says that they are satisfied with the results in that market.

- The Belgrade market was a big challenge for us because we were unknown to local consumers, but we have managed to win them over. Belgrade has always been interesting to us and we will be more than satisfied if we open another 2 or 3 markets similar to the one in New Belgrade within next 2 or 3 years.

Vucurevic says that Univerexport still has no plans to expand the retail network to some other cities in Serbia or in the region because its attention is primarily focused on the markets of Vojvodina and Belgrade.

This company has recently included in the assortment of products its own trademark "baš, baš", which won the award Best of Serbia in late 2010, in the category of the best trademark.

- In less than 18 months, our assortment has grown to include about 300 articles and the share of our trademark in total sales is growing on a daily basis.

The company Univerexport also won this year's award Business Partner 2011. According to the words of Vucurevic, that is an important award and represents a result of 20-year operations and cooperation with business partners and consumers.
