Open competition announced for preliminary architectural design for Beton Hala Waterfront Center

In association with the Urban Planning Institute of Belgrade, the Agency for Investment and Housing has launched an international one-stage architectural competition to design the Beton Hala Waterfront Center in Belgrade, in the area between the Sava Port and Kalemegdan fortress. This competition is launched on February 18 and is available in English language on international architectural websites.

The purpose of the architectural competition is to choose, on the basis of a comparison of designs submitted, the best entry by a participant capable of creating the most suitable design that successfully address the requirements of the Beton Hala Waterfront Center and the surrounding site. Architects (architectural teams) may participate in the competition if they meet the following requirements: architects participating in the competition shall be licensed / certified / registered / authorized in a professional body in their country; architectural teams participating in the competition shall have at least one licensed/certified/registered/authorized architect who will be the team leader.

Competitors must ensure that their entries arrive at the Competition Secretariat on or before April 28, 2011. Submitted proposals will be assessed on May 9, while the results of the competition will be announced on May 13, followed by an exhibition of all entries on June 17. A total amount of EUR 70,000 will be available for prizes and honorable mentions, and it will be distributed as follows: first prize - EUR 30,000, second prize - EUR 20,000, third prize - EUR 10,000, and two honorable mentions - EUR 5,000 each. The jury will be composed of the following seven members: Josep Acebillo (architect, Barcelona), Dr. Kurt Puchinger (architect, Vienna), Darko Radovic (architect, Tokyo), Roberto Simon (architect, Brazil), Dragan Djilas (the Mayor of Belgrade), Vladimir Lojanica (architect, Belgrade) and Milica Grozdanic (architect, Belgrade).
