The Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia has issued the building permit for the reconstruction of the former Beobanka building in the Zeleni Venac neighborhood in Belgrade.

– The realization of this project started back when I was performing public functions in the City of Belgrade and it is especially important for the development of Zeleni Venac – minister Goran Vesic tweeted.

He added that, at that time it had been planned, along with the reconstruction of the building, for the bus turn to be moved in line with the plan for moving all the bus turns in the city center and for the tender to be published for the reconstruction of the lookout “which is now taken up by illegal buildings and for an urban pocket to be established there”. The building itself was supposed to be turned into an art center.

– For a start, the Beobanka building should be reconstructed and become one of the most beautiful office buildings, like it was when it was built – he added.

He also wrote that he was proud that “the building designed by architect Milica Steric, one of the first female architects of post-war modernism in Serbia, is finally being brought back to the map of Belgrade”.

– Her masterpiece was this former office building of Energoprojekt, later known as Beobanka, from 1960, which still has a special place in Serbian construction and architecture thanks to its format and structure – Vesic concluded in his Twitter post.

Let us remind that, in November 2016, the German company Stattwerk bought the former Beobanka building, and there was talk about that part of Belgrade justifying its name (“Green Wreath”) following the reconstruction, because it would get its first green building. However, in April 2022, Astoria Properties from Novi Sad became the owner of the building.
