Colliers International organizes LEED training for future green building experts

From 20th-23rd of September, Colliers International will organize the first LEED® Green Associate Exam Preparation Course in Niš, for professionals who would like to involve themselves in this growing sector of green building and resource efficiency. Topics of the training include basics of green building, costs and benefits, LEED® certification process, LEED® core concepts and strategies regarding site development, water efficiency, energy
efficiency, building materials, and indoor environmental quality.

This course is designed to help professionals to learn everything they need to know to pass the exam for the most prominent credential for distinguishing qualified green building experts.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.

Developed by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions for
all building types – commercial as well as residential. LEED is one of the most widely recognized and prominent independent green buildings rating system with over 6,000 certified projects and more than 28,000 registered projects in over 100 countries.

For a year Colliers in Serbia has taken the leading role in helping professionals in Serbia to gain deeper knowledge in sustainable real estate. Already more than 120 real estate professionals and students with diverse backgrounds in architecture, engineering, interior design and construction management have undergone the LEED® trading courses organized by Colliers in Belgrade.

Although most people still primarily think of green building as energy efficiency or renewable energy sources (i.e. solar power or wind power), it involves many factors of the built environment. Twenty-first century development projects face twenty-first century challenges—and opportunities to address these challenges—due to a heightened consciousness regarding the impacts buildings have on people, the planet, and the ability of investors to make a profit. Building investors, owners, operators, and tenants area becoming aware of and placing a value on more than just the economics of real estate assets; the relationship buildings have with environment and society also impact their decisions.

Multiple studies show that in comparison to the average commercial building:

• Green buildings consume 26% less energy
• Green buildings have 13% lower maintenance costs
• Green buildings have 27% higher occupant satisfaction
• Green buildings have 33% less greenhouse gas emissions
