The Government of Serbia will place a public call and choose the best bank for housing loans at subsidized prices for members of the police and the armed forces, Minister of Internal Affairs Nebojsa Stefanovic said at the National Assembly of Serbia during the discussion about the amendments to the lex specialis on the construction of apartments.

– We will place a public call in order to enable as many people as possible to meet the financial criteria – Minister Stefanovic said and reminded that the government believed that, due to the specificity of the job, this should be the first category of people from the public administration to benefit from such advantages – meaning that the price of a square meter will not exceed EUR 500.

After that, he says, other categories belonging to the public administration will be able to apply as well.

As he said, the price could be lower in certain locations, but the price of EUR 500 is affordable and acceptable for decent locations in Belgrade.

– We will try to make it fairly affordable for future residents through this public call and through securing favorable banking terms. I hope that we will establish a good solution model which will enable people from the security system to solve their housing issues – the minister said.

Stefanovic pointed out that there would be enough apartments for everybody and that all those who apply would get an apartments. He also specified that the size of the apartments would be from 36 to 92 square meters. According to him, there is interest in around 20,000 apartments, including military pensioners.

– This year, we will start building 5,203 apartments. The next phase could begin as soon as next year and will depend on several factors. Of course, the planning documentation needs to be prepared as well – Stefanovic said.
