According to the announcements, the passengers at the Belgrade Airport can expect smaller crowds, more comfort and new features in 2017.

Krusevac-based Morava IN has continued renovating Terminal 1. The documentation for the construction of an overlook is being prepared, and the Nikola Tesla Airport a.d. will invest over RSD 2 billion of its own funds by the end of 2016, to the end of increasing the comfort, developing the infrastructure and modernizing the equipment. This has been confirmed to eKapija at the Belgrade Airport.

The works in the central hall of Terminal 1 marked the continuation of the project this December. The floor was completed last year, following which another passport control unit opened, and the connection between Terminals 1 and 2 was renovated this June. Both investments amounted to RSD 180 million. A total of RSD 1.13 billion has been set aside for 33 new check-in counters, which will be made available to passengers by the start of the summer season, when the recently started works are planned to be completed, along with the procurement of the transport system.

– The construction of another passenger registration zone, to be located between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, is in progress. A total of 28 traditional check-in counters will be installed there, 5 of which will feature the possibility of unassisted checking and handing over of baggage. Furthermore, an additional 5 kiosks for self-registration of passengers will be installed – they explain at the company for eKapija.

– We expect that, by installing the new transport system, the capacity of the Belgrade Airport will increase by 30%.

This, however, is only a part of the new features announced by the Nikola Tesla Airport. Perhaps the most interesting project to the public is the construction of an overlook on the roof, which will be made available to passengers by the end of 2017. The plan is to start preparing the technical documentation and acquiring all the necessary permits in early 2017, following which a public procurement procedure for performing the construction works will be organized.

– The construction of the overlook is expected to start in the second half of 2017, and the works should last for 150 days. The investment, including both the project and the works, amounts to around RSD 80 million.

As they note at the airport, their goal is to keep modernizing and providing top-quality service, and the expansion of capacities is a real need for the Airport and Air Serbia. To specify, the Nikola Tesla Airport had a record-setting number of 331,242 passengers in November, and the projections say that there will be more than 4.9 million passengers before the end of the year.

– The Nikola Tesla Airport is also planning the reconstruction and extension of the hall A, between the gates A6 and A10, as well as the extension of the A platform in 2017, and the development and enhancement of the terminal building is to follow, using the principle of accessibility for all passengers and a more efficient utilization of space. The plans also include the development of parking lots, a new fire department base and a new boiler room – the company announces for eKapija.

Fortifying floor construction

The continuation of the modernization includes the beginning of fortifying the floor construction, as reported by the Airport on December 13. Due to this, the luggage pickup space will be reduced at the carousel number 4.

As stated, a prefabricated wall has been placed next to the carousel, and the temporary partition displays instructions directing the passengers to the free section of carousel 4, where they will be able to pick up their luggage once the carousel goes back into use. In order to secure the luggage, a tunnel will be formed within the partition, moving the luggage along to the free section of the carousel, available to passengers.

The other three carousels at the airport will operate as usual.
